Anion Exchange Membrane Pre-treatment Instructions: the membranes are supplied in a dry state but may contain traces of residual water, additives, and solvents. These can be removed by soaking in deionized water. If additional cleaning is required, rinse the membrane with the application-specific solution or deionized water according to your process needs. Depending on the application and cell design, assembly can be performed either dry (without pre-treatment) or wet. Pre-treatment for Wet Assembly: Place the membrane sample between stable mesh/spacers in a NaCl solution (to avoid curling), e.g., in 0.5M NaCl solution at T=25°C for 72 hours, replacing the solution multiple times. Do not let the membrane dry out, as micro-cracks may develop during shrinkage. The membrane will swell and shrink depending on its water/electrolyte content.Alternatively, pre-soaking can be performed using the reaction solution intended for your specific application.
