can I heat water over either a propane burner or butane burner in this beaker? Thanks

Yes, but it is required to heat it through a layer of asbestos mesh.

The beaker can be directly heated using a hot plate or evenly heated with an alcohol lamp on an asbestos mesh. Recommended maximum temperature is 250℃.
